{"id":94087,"date":"2020-08-30T13:40:57","date_gmt":"2020-08-30T17:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bikeworldnews.com\/?p=94087"},"modified":"2020-08-30T13:40:57","modified_gmt":"2020-08-30T17:40:57","slug":"2020-tour-de-france-stage-2-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bikeworldnews.com\/2020\/08\/30\/2020-tour-de-france-stage-2-results\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Tour de France: Stage 2 Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Decueninck – Quick-Step’s Julian Alaphilippe took over the yellow jersey after Stage 2 of the 2020 Tour de France.<\/p>\n<p>Alaphilippe wore the maillot jaune for 14 days in the 2019 Tour de France before finishing fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Alaphilippe, who was strong through the middle of the stage before giving up the lead to others, broke away with about eight miles left of an unusually early mountain stage. He sprinted away from Swiss Marc Hirschi and Brit Adam Yates\u00a0in the last 200 meters.<\/p>\n<p>Alaphilippe took the overall lead from stage one winner\u00a0Alexander Kristoff\u00a0of Norway. Yates is now in second place, four seconds behind.<\/p>\n<p>Like going into last year\u2019s Tour, Alaphilippe is not considered a top contender to win the Grand Tour once it reaches Paris in three weeks. He is competing this year two months after the death of his father, Jacques.<\/p>\n<p>Alaphilippe pointed to the sky as he won his fifth career Tour stage. He could hold onto the yellow jersey until the Tour hits the Pyrenees for stages eight and nine.<\/p>\n<p>Favorites including defending champion Egan Bernal are 17 seconds back in the overall
